“Night Song” (video)

Last night I wrote this song. It’s inspired by the “Lousberg”, a hill that overlooks the city of Aachen, where I live. At night it grants a beautiful view in a peaceful atmosphere and you can get sentimental and start thinking about all the people on the globe… This is my second attempt at a ukulele song with English lyrics. I know I need to practice some chord changes, but the song wanted to be published first. Maybe I’ll record another version of it later. Any suggestions for improvement are welcome (I’m not a native English speaker)!

“Night Song” (lyrics)

by Dirk Lother

1)
C G
Cars moving in the distance
D
like pearls of light on strings
and around me all is silence
but the rustling of leaves in the wind
but the hum of the city below me
so many people, lights and things

BRIDGE:
Bb F
no daylight left that disturbs
Bb A
street sweepers are treating the curbs

CHORUS:
D A
On a hill high above the city
D A
my feet wet with morning dew
C#7 F#m
I make a wish for everybody down there
Bm7 E7 A
and sing a night song, a night song to you

D A
And good luck to all those in peril,
D A
and peace to all those people that I knew
C#7 F#m
and all of the best to all of the rest
Bm7 E7 A F G > C
and a night song, a night song to you

2)
C G
I’m singing this song to you my dear
D
and to all those who can’t sleep tonight
C G
and to all of my good friends out there far and near
D
till the dawn brings on the new light
C G
Begin again, dear nightingale,
D
you waterfall of bright sound!

BRIDGE:
Bb F
To praise we will God united,
Bb A
until the new day is lighted

Repeat CHORUS > END
